Dr. Mohamed Awad, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), participated in the launch event for the Alam Al Roum Investment Zone on Egypt’s northwestern coast. The event was organized by Qatari Diar and attended by Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade; Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities; and Eng. Taleb Al Athba, Deputy Chairman of Qatari Diar Egypt.
Dr. Awad stated that the Alam Al Roum project represents another success for Egypt’s investment zones framework, which has attracted growing demand thanks to its integrated service model. Under this model, the relevant investment authorities are represented on the board of directors of each investment zone, enabling investors to obtain all required approvals, licenses and permits through the board under streamlined and well-organized procedures. This approach ensures full coordination between developers and state institutions, enhancing implementation efficiency and accelerating the start of operations.
Egypt currently has 12 established investment zones hosting 1300 projects and providing 78,000 jobs. These zones generate tangible development benefits for their surrounding regions and offer an attractive model for attracting new investments. Projects within investment zones also benefit from faster implementation and operational timelines, supported by streamlined procedures and a stable business environment.
Dr. Awad added that the Alam Al Roum project represents a major development milestone for Matrouh Governorate and advances one of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade’s key objectives: ensuring the efficient and effective distribution of investments across all regions of Egypt. The project will provide decent employment opportunities for local residents throughout its implementation and operational phases. He reaffirmed GAFI’s commitment to providing all necessary facilitation, comprehensive support and continuous follow-up to help ensure the project’s continuity and success.
