
GAFI CEO Discusses Cooperation and Investment Opportunities with AAPI, Motherson, Afreximbank and SACE
On the sidelines of the inaugural edition of the Alamein–Africa Business Forum, Dr. Mohamed Awad, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), and Mr. Walid Anwar, GAFI Deputy CEO, held a number of meetings with representatives of international companies and institutions, to discuss cooperation and investment opportunities.
Dr. Awad held talks with Mr. Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), during which they discussed opportunities to enhance investment and trade cooperation between Egypt and Algeria, and capitalize on the potential available in both countries to establish joint projects and expand into African markets.
GAFI CEO also met with a delegation from “Motherson”, India, a company specializing in the automotive and aircraft components industry, where they discussed investment opportunities in Egypt in the fields of manufacturing automotive components and certain aircraft components.
Gautam Manga, Head of New Business Development at Motherson, affirmed the company’s interest in studying the investment opportunities available in the Egyptian market. Dr. Awad, in turn, affirmed GAFI’s support for the company as it explores investment opportunities, highlighting the potential available in the engineering and automotive components sector.
Mr. Walid Anwar, GAFI Deputy CEO, also reviewed the investment frameworks available in Egypt and the incentives associated with each framework, with a focus on the Free Zones Framework for companies targeting exports to foreign markets.
Dr. Awad also participated in a meeting between Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, and Mr. Haythem El-Maayergi, Executive Vice President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), during which they discussed areas of cooperation in supporting startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and increasing the access of Egyptian companies to African markets.
On the sidelines of the Forum, Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, and Dr. Mohamed Awad, GAFI CEO, met with Mr. Ciro Aquino, Head of the Middle East and Africa Region at Italy’s Export Credit Agency (SACE). The meeting addressed ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of investment and trade, infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and technological innovation.
